What inspired you to not only go for your Professional Wetland Scientist Certification, but into this field?

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, camping & hiking in our beautiful landscapes inspired me to work in the environmental field.  I enjoy working in the environmental consulting field specifically because it allows me to apply my strong scientific background to find workable solutions that protect and/or mitigate for environmentally sensitive areas while also meeting the land use needs for our clients.  The PWS certification will add tremendous value to my everyday work.

How has your professional work experience prepared you for this?

It’s been over 7 years in the making in both consulting and the private sector to garner the necessary experience and qualifications. Completing and defending hundreds of wetlands delineations; planning wetland mitigation strategies in coordination with state and federal; reviewing wetland delineation reports, mitigation plans, and biological assessments as the senior writer; and mentoring staff with the ever-evolving science.

If you could take one celebrity in the field with you, who would it be?

If I had the opportunity to take Steve Irwin (a.k.a. The Crocodile Hunter, RIP) into the field, it would make for a very entertaining day!

How do you plan on celebrating this huge accomplishment?

I plan on celebrating by treating myself to a new pair of muck boots!
